OLAP AS Connection Weirdness
RS SP1 is installed
I have a SQLRS report developed in visual studio (also loaded on RS
box) that runs MDX against an analysis services cube. I am using the
OLE DB provider for OLAP services 8.0. (Note that we had to run
ptsfull.exe to get the pivot table service and 8.0 provider to be
available)
I can successfully preview the report in visual studio.
When I upload the report to Report Manger, the report bombs with...
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
Get Online Help
Cannot create a connection to data source 'AAHP'.
(rsErrorOpeningConnection) Get Online Help
Database '<source name>' does not exist.
Am I missing something on the report server?
Thanks!Jim wrote:

The report bombs while uploading?
Do you tried to open the AS-DB in the analysis-manager on the reportserver?
regards
Frank|||Sorry, no. The report bombs when I try to run it via report manager. I
can open the AS-DB and cube in Analysis Manger (which is Not on the
report server). I have a role setup that should allow the stored
credentials to successfully authenticate.|||Jim wrote:

Jim,
lets have a look into the eventlog of the server where the analysis cube
resides.
Source MSSQLSERVEROLAPSERVER.
If there errors with something like "NT-Authority/Anonymous" your
security-settings on the report-server are not valid (especially the
settings in internet service manager)
If there aren't any errors it become more difficult...Do you run ptsfull on
reportserver either?
regards
Frank|||Thanks for your replies.
No errors unfortunately.
I ran ptsfull on the reportserver.
As I mentioned I can connect to the AS server via Visual Studio. As
soon as I deploy the report (using a stored connection or shared
connection) to report manager it won't run. I'm running MDAC 2.8 on the
report server.|||Jim wrote:
> As I mentioned I can connect to the AS server via Visual Studio.
Yes..i know. You can connect to the AS from YOUR workstation and your
reportserver can't as you wrote.
The problem should be between reportserver and AS-server but wich problem? I
dont know!
regards
frank|||Just to clarify...
Visual Studio - where I am developing the reports - is on the report
server.|||Jim,
I am having same problems and was wondering if you found solution of this
one. Thanks.

OK to delete sql2ksp3 folder after install?
I've installed the SP3 for SQL Server 2000. Is it OK to remove the sql2ksp3
folder from my C drive now?
(and even though this is off topic, does anyone know how to increase the siz
e of the "C" partition on W2K AS?
I have 2 18GB drives in a RAID1 config. They are basic disks and are going
to stay that way. The system is
running in production mode, and between Dell, MSFT, and 2 partition tools I
cannot seem to find anyone who
can give me an authoritative 'yes' and how to do it. They all just want to
point to the other guys and have me
get the answer there.)
Thanks in advance for whatever help anyone can provide.
randyRandy,
Yes you should be able to remove that folder. As for increasing the
partition that's probably not an option. If it's a Raid 1 and you created
it initially with all the space in the primary partition you have no room to
grow. Can you be more specific as to where you need the room etc?

Thanks for using the newsgroup.
Yes, you could remove the sql2ksp3 folder because it is just a folder for
install files.
As for the question space of your Windows 2000 advanced server, we do have
related newsgroup and you could ask your question at:

I'll check out the other group for my partition question.
Just to close it out here, I do have more room available. The two disks in
the RAID are both 18Giggers. So, I have
approx. 12 GB of unallocated space just beyond the initial 4GB "C" drive par
tition. Why not just create a "D" partition?
Well, we are holding out the possibility of rebuilding our cluster, and the
other server was just redone - however, this time
with a little more help from Dell using Server Asst. we got the full use of
the drive. So I'm trying to do this one the same.
At this point I'm pretty much resigned to having to blow this one away as so
on as we have the other server up.
Why do we need that big a "C" drive? Well besides having paid for the stora
ge and wanting to use it, believe it or
not there are still companies (like AVAYA) that build applications that MUST
be put in the C drive's programs folder.
ARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH. ;-)
Thanks again.|||Just FYI, it helps if you supply all the information to get correct
responses for your issue. You did not initially mention the drives only
had 4GB out of 18GB partitioned. That kind of information goes a long way.

I ran into something like this before. Reporting services installs to your
default website. When things get moved around (like I tried to do), your root
website can be missing the aspnet_client folder (usually found in
c:\inetpub\wwwroot). Just copy this folder over to the root of your website.
That folder contains some java scripts that contain some generic code which
is required for RS to execute the commands in the manager.

Offline Cube Refresh
This is where my issues start. I get various messages all pointing to either an OLE DB driver crashing or the .cub file being reported as corrupt.
This doesn't happen every time once in a while with no noticable pattern has anyone else experienced the same problems with refreshing offline cubes?
If you willing to try... Please see if installing CTP of SP2 will solve your problem.
You can install it from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=d2da6579-d49c-4b25-8f8a-79d14145500d&DisplayLang=en
If your problems still persist, contact product support and report your problems.

odbc timeout
we have to installed a new nic on a w2k-server with sql-server2000. The
proberties TCP/IP are the same like on the old nic. SQL-Connection are okay,
but not the odbc-connection! During the configuratin of the odbc-connection
on the client we recieve an timeout error. 1.-3. or 4. try are succesful. But
than timeout. Nameresolution seems okay. We have no error massage or id. Only
timeout, connection failed!
What´s the reason for this? Only a new network-card!
Thanks for help!Hi Ralf
I am not sure why you need to create a new ODBC connection if this
previously existed? If this did not previously exist then you can not say for
certain it is the NIC that is causing this, therefore check to see if you can
ping the server and/or connect via osql, check that the firewall is not
blocking any port being used. Other things to look out for would be faulty
cabling, a problem with a hub or switch, out-of-date drivers.

we create a new odbc connection only for testing. The error is the same like
the old one. We have applications as sql-clients, works normaly. So I´m sure
network connection is okay. One application needs the odbc connection. These
one failed with timeout error. Try to connect passed 3-4 times, than
timeout. After a few seconds I can start again: the same (passed 3-4 times,
than timeout). ODBCPING passed. Ping passed. Firewall is not activ. MDAC is
new. SP4 for SQL-Server is installed. Driver for the NIC (Intel) is the new.
It seems like an limit of odbc-requests, but I don´t know!

If there is a limit on your connections then I would expect other systems to
experience problems as well! You could set ODBC tracing on, but I am not sure
that it will tell you anything extra. You may also want to try a different
NIC that you know is working. You may also want to try plugging the maching
into the same hub/switch as the server using different cables.

Is the app using 'generic' odbc or is it writing to the API?
Also, during the set up of the ODBC driver in ODBC Administrator,t here is a
'test connection' option. When you do that test does it fail?

odbc sql server does not exist or access denied
Take a look at - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/328306
Hope this helps
|||Also got the error from another machine "does not allow remote connections" when connecting to ODBC.The fix was to ensure that SQL Server Surface Area Configuration (via Start / etc) , Remote Connections set to "Using both TCP/IP and named pipes" (which was already default in my instance), and instead of using the name of the server in the ODBC drop-down list, use the servier IP, i.e. 10.0.0.XXX.|||
Is your issue resolved? If so, please mark your question anwserred.
If you are able to connect using IP address, but not with machine name, most likely you have a DNS problem on your network.
odbc sql native client
for development. When I try to create an odbc connect to SQL Native Client
2005.90.1399.00 that specific driver doesn't appear in the list of drivers
available for selection. I've verified that it is in fact installed.
What's the problem, why doesn't it appear?
It's hard to say where exactly you are seeing this issue but
I would guess you are trying to create a DSN using the SQL
Native Client. Try updating your MDAC and verify that the
MDAC installation is correct on the laptop. You can check
the MDAC installation using component checker. You can
download component checker as well as the latest MDAC
versions from:

Client doesn't appear in the ODBC list when opening up "User DSN".
Nothing seems to be different on this system from the 20 others that
it does appear on. MDAC is the latest one also. Have any other ideas
of what I might look for?

ODBC SQL 2005 and Named Instance - won't connect
instance on one IP address, port 1433 and the other instance on a different
IP address, port 1433.
Try to create an ODBC System DSN using SQL Native Client and it won't
connect.
If we do the same thing but using a default instance of SQL 2005, ODBC
connects fine.
Any help anyone can give as to why ODBC won't connect to the SQL 2005 names
instances?
I've tried searching thru MSDN and TechNet and such but found nothing of any
help.

Never mind, got it to work, having taken a sledgehammer to the server.
Disabled all IP addresses other than the one specified for the instance,
then restarted the whole box, and hey presto it finally worked.
Now we just have to get LDAP to recognise the named instances. Yeah I know,
old technology and all that stuff.

ODBC Port
connect ok with Query Analyser. I can connect ok with ODBC via a DSN if I
don't specify the port. However if I specify the port (which is 1433 I've
double checked) in the DSN or a JDBC connection it fails! Can somebody help
me?
Thanks
Adam Sankey
on the sql serve box :
check the programs->sqlserver2000>sql server network utilitity
click tcp and check properties
you should be able to see the port configured, if tcp is enabled
thanks

odbc link failed
I have a windows SBS2003 server with msde installed.
I created some odbc datalinks in microsoft acces to one of my sql databases.
The links are ok end i can access the odbc links in microsoft acces on my
server.
Problem :
When i open the access database on my workstation and try to connect to one
of the odbc links, i getr the followin error.
ODBC-connection to 'SQL Server<servername> failed
Microsoft Access can't open the table in Datasheet View
Any suggestions?
Thank you,
Hi
Your MSDE instance was probably installed without the network protocols
See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=814130 on how to run svrnetcn.exe.
