SQL Server on 6.5 or 7.0.

Okay to install sp3a over sp3?
We intended to install sp3a but ended up installing sp3 by mistake. According to the web site, if you have installed sp3, "you don't need to install sp3a," but my question is would there be any harm in doing so? We know that an issue we're having is fix
ed in sp3a and we don't want to pull individual hotfixes.

Which issue is that? AFAIK, there were no changes to the database engine
itself between sp3 and sp3a. The changes were in the setup program, MDAC
and net libraries.

e SQL service pack? Or, as per my original question, will there be any problem with just upgrading to sp3a?

Ok.. Step 2 of my clustering
I managed to successfully install the Windows clustering service on Node 1
of my active\passive setup environement on win2003.
The only thing i had done on Node 2 was install the OS and did not configure
the shared disks on the shared array...
I now powered Node 2 and wanted to go to disk management to configure those
shared disks. What am I supposed to see ? Would they be inaccessible because
Node 1 has the cluster service installed and owns this disk resource...or
should I be able to access them and configure them the same way as Node 1
with the same drive letters,etc.. and then join that node to the cluster..
Thanks
If MSCS is installed and the cluster service is running on Node 1, the disks
should be inaccessible on Node 2.

ok to install sql2005/2000,vs2005/2003 on same machine
Hi just wondering if anyone has run into any problems installing and running
vs2005 and sql 2005 prof with a machine that already has sql2000 and vs2003,
or if it will effect sql 2000 or vs2003 in any way, thanks.

Software engineer.I run this configuration. It does work. I installed a certificate on my web
server and suddenly I couldn't connect to SQL 2000 anymore. Other than that

OK to install Outlook 2003 client on an SQL Server 2005?
Hello,
I have an SQL 2005 server which is lightly used and I'd like to
install Outlook 2003 on it for a conversion utility which has nothing
to do with SQL.
Will installing Outlook cause problems for the SQL Server please?
Thanks,
- Alan.I've been using both of them on the same machine for a long time and I
haven't met a problem related to Outlook yet.

OK to delete sql2ksp3 folder after install?
I'm desperate for room on my "C" drive at the moment.
I've installed the SP3 for SQL Server 2000. Is it OK to remove the sql2ksp3
folder from my C drive now?
(and even though this is off topic, does anyone know how to increase the siz
e of the "C" partition on W2K AS?
I have 2 18GB drives in a RAID1 config. They are basic disks and are going
to stay that way. The system is
running in production mode, and between Dell, MSFT, and 2 partition tools I
cannot seem to find anyone who
can give me an authoritative 'yes' and how to do it. They all just want to
point to the other guys and have me
get the answer there.)
Thanks in advance for whatever help anyone can provide.
randyRandy,
Yes you should be able to remove that folder. As for increasing the
partition that's probably not an option. If it's a Raid 1 and you created
it initially with all the space in the primary partition you have no room to
grow. Can you be more specific as to where you need the room etc?

I'll check out the other group for my partition question.
Just to close it out here, I do have more room available. The two disks in
the RAID are both 18Giggers. So, I have
approx. 12 GB of unallocated space just beyond the initial 4GB "C" drive par
tition. Why not just create a "D" partition?
Well, we are holding out the possibility of rebuilding our cluster, and the
other server was just redone - however, this time
with a little more help from Dell using Server Asst. we got the full use of
the drive. So I'm trying to do this one the same.
At this point I'm pretty much resigned to having to blow this one away as so
on as we have the other server up.
Why do we need that big a "C" drive? Well besides having paid for the stora
ge and wanting to use it, believe it or
not there are still companies (like AVAYA) that build applications that MUST
be put in the C drive's programs folder.
ARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH. ;-)
Thanks again.|||Just FYI, it helps if you supply all the information to get correct
responses for your issue. You did not initially mention the drives only
had 4GB out of 18GB partitioned. That kind of information goes a long way.

Well, we are holding out the possibility of rebuilding our cluster, and the other server was just redone - however, this time
with a little more help from Dell using Server Asst. we got the full use of the drive. So I'm trying to do this one the same
At this point I'm pretty much resigned to having to blow this one away as soon as we have the other server up
Why do we need that big a "C" drive? Well besides having paid for the storage and wanting to use it, believe it o
not there are still companies (like AVAYA) that build applications that MUST be put in the C drive's programs folder
ARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH. ;-
Thanks again.|||Just FYI, it helps if you supply all the information to get correct
responses for your issue. You did not initially mention the drives only
had 4GB out of 18GB partitioned. That kind of information goes a long way.

should be able to resize the 4 gig partitions.

I've installed the SP3 for SQL Server 2000. Is it OK to remove the sql2ksp3 folder from my C drive now
(and even though this is off topic, does anyone know how to increase the size of the "C" partition on W2K AS
I have 2 18GB drives in a RAID1 config. They are basic disks and are going to stay that way. The system i
running in production mode, and between Dell, MSFT, and 2 partition tools I cannot seem to find anyone wh
can give me an authoritative 'yes' and how to do it. They all just want to point to the other guys and have m
get the answer there.
Thanks in advance for whatever help anyone can provide
randyRandy,
Yes you should be able to remove that folder. As for increasing the
partition that's probably not an option. If it's a Raid 1 and you created
it initially with all the space in the primary partition you have no room to
grow. Can you be more specific as to where you need the room etc?

> randy|||Hi Randy,
Thanks for using the newsgroup.
Yes, you could remove the sql2ksp3 folder because it is just a folder for
install files.
As for the question space of your windows 2000 advanced server, we do have
related newsgroup and you could ask your question at:
http://communities2.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?
dg=microsoft.public.win2000.advanced_server
OR
News:microsoft.public.win2000.advanced_server
Our related engineers there will help you with this issue.
Thanks.
Best regards

I'll check out the other group for my partition question
Just to close it out here, I do have more room available. The two disks in the RAID are both 18Giggers. So, I have
approx. 12 GB of unallocated space just beyond the initial 4GB "C" drive partition. Why not just create a "D" partition

Odbcping
Hye,
I have client tools only, install on my computers. and I wolud like to use
odbcping from my machin. does it possible to install the odbcping, because
right now i dont have it install on my computer.
Regards,
Dubka.
The odbcping utility is no longer installed by SQL Server 2000 Setup.
If you need to run odbcping utility you can run it from the x:\x86\Binn
directory on the SQL Server 2000 compact disc, or manually copy it to your
computer.

ODBC Problem after install SP3 on SQL 2000
After install SP3 on SQL server 2000, some computers can't connect to the SQL server through ODBC.
Connection failed:
SQL State: '01000'
SQL Server Error: 10060
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]Connection Open(Connect()).

Please helpRE:
Q1 After install SP3 on SQL server 2000, some computers can't connect to the SQL server through ODBC. Please help
A1 Consider checking general network connectivity (ping the server from the workstations). If network connectivity is present consider verifying / checking the DSNs in use (verify protocol settings, etc., and test the connection) and / or use the MDAC compatibility checking tool to assess MDAC component status. See: http://www.microsoft.com/data/download.htm#CCinfo
http://download.microsoft.com/downl...XP/EN-US/cc.exe|||Ping the server OK
Already checked Client Network Utility and Server Network Utility. Both use TCP and NamePipe.
Run MDAC check already.
ODBC still don't work.
